Rhinoplasty in Newport Beach, CA

A Note from Dr. Aaron Kosins

Expert Rhinoplasty in Newport Beach

Rhinoplasty in Newport Beach, CA has been a true passion of mine since the earliest stages of my training. My interest began with my first academic work on nasal reconstruction and has continued through my research, presentations, and publications focused on nasal tip refinement, facial balance, and the structural anatomy of the nose.

I have been fortunate to train with and learn from some of the most respected rhinoplasty surgeons in the world. My experience includes performing a large number of rhinoplasty cases, and continuously evaluating and refining my results. I remain a lifelong student of rhinoplasty and continue to contribute to the field through research and education.  I was the first surgeon in the United States using ultrasonic piezosurgery and contributed to the advancement of Preservation Rhinoplasty support long-term structure.  I am the editor of the esteemed rhinoplasty section of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal.

Rhinoplasty is, in my opinion, the most challenging operation in plastic surgery. It requires not only technical precision but also a deep understanding of how the nose functions and how it relates to the rest of the face.

Why Choose Dr. Aaron Kosins for Rhinoplasty in Newport Beach?

Patients choose me for rhinoplasty in Newport Beach CA because of my focused experience, technical approach, and commitment to natural results.

I approach every rhinoplasty with:

  • A detailed understanding of nasal anatomy
  • Advanced training with leading rhinoplasty surgeons
  • Experience in both cosmetic and functional nasal surgery
  • A commitment to long-term structural support of the nose

In the past, rhinoplasty often involved removing too much structure to make the nose smaller. I take a different approach. I focus on reconstructing and strengthening the foundation of the nose so that it looks refined while maintaining proper function for years to come.

Structural And Preservation Rhinoplasty: My Approach

I believe that rhinoplasty must address both form and function.

Early in my career, I treated many patients with prior nasal trauma or complications from previous rhinoplasty. This experience shaped my approach. I focus on reconstructing and supporting the nasal framework rather than simply removing tissue.

This allows me to:

  • Maintain and improve breathing
  • Prevent long-term structural collapse
  • Create more stable, lasting results

Even when your nose appears smaller or more refined, the underlying structure is strengthened.

Rhinoplasty Treatments & Procedures

What Is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is a procedure performed to improve both the appearance and function of the nose.

With rhinoplasty in Newport Beach, Dr. Aaron Kosins can:

  • Refine the size and shape of the nose
  • Remove a bump along the bridge
  • Improve symmetry
  • Refine or define the nasal tip
  • Correct a crooked nose
  • Improve breathing

For Dr. Kosins, a successful rhinoplasty enhances a patient’s appearance while preserving—or improving—nasal function and breathing.

Benefits of Rhinoplasty

The goal of rhinoplasty in Newport Beach, CA is to achieve results that look natural and complement the patient’s facial features.

Benefits may include:

  • Improved facial balance
  • Enhanced nasal symmetry
  • Better breathing
  • Increased confidence
  • Long-lasting results

Primary Rhinoplasty

Primary rhinoplasty refers to a patient’s first nose surgery and is one of the most important aesthetic procedures.

During consultation, Dr. Kosins asks patients to identify the three primary concerns they have about their nose.

Common concerns include:

  • “My nose is too big”
  • “I don’t like the bump on my nose”
  • “My tip drops when I smile”
  • “My nose is crooked”
  • “I can’t breathe well”
  • “My nose doesn’t fit my face”

Dr. Kosins performs both an external and internal evaluation of the nose and captures detailed photographs from multiple angles. Reviewing these images together allows for alignment between the patient’s goals and what is surgically achievable.

Before surgery, a second meeting is scheduled to confirm goals and review the customized surgical plan.

Open vs. Closed Rhinoplasty

Dr. Kosins performs both open and closed rhinoplasty, depending on each patient’s anatomy and goals.

Open Rhinoplasty
This technique involves a small incision on the columella (the area between the nostrils), typically less than 5mm. It heals very well in most patients and provides greater visibility and control—especially when refining the nasal tip.

Closed Rhinoplasty
All incisions are made inside the nose, leaving no visible external scar. This approach is ideal for select cases.

Dr. Kosins determines the best approach during consultation based on the patient’s anatomy and desired outcome.

Male Rhinoplasty

Male rhinoplasty often benefits from a tailored approach that considers each patient’s anatomy and goals.

Dr. Kosins takes into account key differences such as:

  • Thicker skin
  • Larger nasal structures
  • Greater likelihood of prior trauma
  • Different aesthetic goals

Most male patients seek refinement while maintaining masculine features.

During consultation, Dr. Kosins evaluates both the external structure and internal function of the nose, including the septum, turbinates, and nasal valves. Breathing patterns are also assessed to fully understand nasal function.

A customized surgical plan is then developed to align with each patient’s anatomy and goals.

Revision Rhinoplasty

Dr. Kosins also performs revision rhinoplasty to correct or improve the results of a previous nose surgery. This procedure accounts for at least one-third of his plastic surgery practice.

Revision rhinoplasty is often more complex due to:

  • Scar tissue
  • Structural weaknesses
  • Functional concerns

Dr. Kosins’ experience with prior trauma and previous surgeries allows him to approach revision cases using advanced reconstructive techniques.

What to Expect After Rhinoplasty

All rhinoplasty procedures are performed under general anesthesia in an outpatient setting.

After surgery:

  • A cast remains on the nose for five to seven days
  • Internal splints are typically in place for the same duration
  • Swelling and mild bruising are expected during the first few days

Patients are advised to keep their head elevated and sleep on multiple pillows to reduce swelling.

At the first post-operative visit, Dr. Kosins removes the cast and splints. While swelling is still present, initial results are immediately noticeable.

Over the following weeks, patients are guided on taping techniques to minimize swelling and support healing.

Most swelling improves significantly within the first 3 weeks, though subtle swelling may persist for several months. Final results develop gradually over up to one year, with complete healing taking up to three years.

Breathing often improves shortly after splint removal and continues to improve over time.
